Minister confident of completion of Eastern corridor roads

The Volta Regional Minister, Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo has assured Ghanaians that the Eastern corridor roads will be completed by 2016.

He explained that the Eastern Corridor road is seen as a North-South Trade Corridor which will provide a shorter access to the Tema Port from the north and improve integration between the Upper East, Northern and Volta Regions and also Ghana, Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger.

He said the road, when completed, will help make mobility of goods and services easier.

Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo was speaking at the celebration of the 12th Zendo Glimetsoza at Kpeve, in the South Dayi District of the Volta Region.

Zendo Glimetsoza, is a festival, celebrated by the people of Klefe, Klikor, Kpeve, Tsorxor and Tsibu to mark their migration from Notsie, Togo to their present settlements.

The celebration is rotated among the five towns with Kpeve being the host for this year.

The Volta Regional Minister, Nii Laryea Afotey-Agbo, commended the planning committee for the celebration and urged the people to remain united and dedicated.

He advised them to cherish the peace being enjoyed in the country. The District Chief Executive of the South Dayi District, Kafui Semenu Bekui called on Ghanaians to compliment government’s efforts at developing the country.

He said Kpeve has recorded much improvement in educational infrastructure, sanitation and road networks.

According to him, with the current population of Ghana it is impossible for any government to address the socio-economic challenges of the country in four years and asked the people to exercise restrain while government improves upon their living conditions.

The Zendo Glimetsoza re-union is centered on a chosen development project and this year’s projects is the construction of a Science laboratory for the Kpeve Senior High School.

In a speech read on his behalf, the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Kofi Humado assured the people that all promises made to the region will be fulfilled and therefore urged the people to remain united and support government in its quest.

He disclosed that the Youth in Agriculture programme will be improved to encourage the youth to actively take up agriculture as a lucrative business.

Mr Humado therefore challenged the youth to take advantage of the opportunities under this programme. He encouraged the youth not to shy away from agriculture in search of non-existing white collar jobs.

The Paramount Chief of Kpeve Togbe Aku Dompe, appealed to government to provide classroom blocks and staff bungalows for the Kpeve Senior High School.

He mentioned lack of potable water, electricity, poor road network and clinic as some of the challenges facing the area
