Ambassador Gala congratulates gov't for fulfilling housing pledge

The Ambassador of the Federal of Republic of Brazil, Her Excellency Irene Vida Gala, has congratulated the president and Government of Ghana for fulfilling the pledge to provide affordable housing units for Ghanaians.

She made this statement on Wednesday at the sod-cutting ceremony of Construtora OAS housing project held at Saglemi to pave the way for the commencement of the five thousand affordable housing units.

According to President John Dramani Mahama, this project is the continuation of the affordable housing scheme started by the previous government.

He also noted that this initiative by the government is to help reduce the cost of rentals in the country and to provide decent houses for Ghanaians as he stated in his manifesto during the campaign.

He appreciated the Brazilian government for their assistance in helping to complete this project initiated by the government.

Addressing the chiefs during the ceremony, he advised them not to sell the land to any foreigner in order to help government to continue projects on the lands to help make the place a centre of development.

“This land is good for agricultural, housing and commercial activities, this land is your heritage,” he added.

Alhaji Collins Dauda, the Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing also stated that the project that would soon be commenced by the Construtora OAS was aimed at providing job opportunities for not less than five thousand youths in the country.

He also emphasized that the government intended to partner with the private sector to enable other projects initiated by the government to be completed.
