Govt names priority projects

The government of Ghana has identified four priority areas for possible Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangements.

Energy and utilities, including water and electricity, infrastructure development, housing and agriculture are high on government’s priority list, Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo, Minister of State in Charge of Public Private Partnership has said.

He said the government would ensure transparency at all stages of the entire value chain processes.

This, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Wa Central noted, would enable partners to learn to understand each other’s different points of view and build trust.

Speaking at the opening of the two-day Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana (CIMG) annual strategic marketing conference in Accra, Mr. Pelpuo intimated that various initiatives, including legislations, aimed at improving transparency have been started by government.

“The Right to Information Bill currently before parliament is a step in this direction. Suffice to say that there already exits a framework and institutional architecture to support accountability and transparency.”

Mr. Pelpuo further added that the current procurement law provides a comprehensive framework and a good starting point towards achieving this goal.

The Wa Central MP disclosed that government’s priority projects would be based on well-thought out processes to meet the needs of the people, adding that “experience shows us that partnerships that are demand-driven with the involvement of local partners have the biggest chance to be successful.”
