NPP group calls for audit of party’s account

A group calling itself the Patriotic Future of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is calling for an audit of the party’s Bank accounts.

According to the group, the party’s national executives have failed to account for campaign funds meant for the 2012 general elections.

In a statement issued in Accra Wednesday, the Patriotic Future of NPP said some polling agents have still not received their allowances.

“Where is the Polling Agents’ allowance? As we speak, many of our polling agents have not received their responsibility allowance in the last election.

The situation is bad and clearly exposes our current leadership as insensitive and a clear case of losing touch with the grassroots of the party. We wish to find answers to these mind boggling questions”.

They are also demanding the where about of the GH¢16, 000.00 paid by each parliamentary aspirant, revenue from the dues and the funds raised by the party for the 2012 electioneering campaign.

The Patriotic Future of NPP also called for a neutral audit team to establish the alleged acts of financial impropriety involving the national leadership of the party.

The group also kicked against the proposal for an early delegates’ congress to elect a flagbearer before party executives, ahead of the 2016 general elections. They claim the proposal “is egocentric and portrays the National executives as self-seeking individuals whose main agenda is inimical to the unity and progress of our dear party”.

The group also blamed the National Chairman, Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey and the party’s General Secretary, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie popularly known as Sir John, for NPP‘s defeat in 2012.

They believe the focus of the national executives should be on identifying the reasons why the NPP lost the 2008 and 2012 elections.

“Now is the time for all well-meaning members of the party, to stand up and be counted. No longer should they keep quiet and allow a minority to dictate to the course of the party. The party belongs to all members and the views of its members must be made to count. Not just that of a few who only led us to defeat in the past”.
