Nine NDC Supporters Remanded In Custody

Nine NDC supporters have been remanded in police custody by a Kumasi circuit tribunal for allegedly assaulting an NPP woman. They were charged on two counts of intentionally and unlawfully causing harm to Hajia Maame and destroying her clothes valued at one hundred and ninety thousand cedis. All nine pleaded not guilty to the charges. The court refused a bail application by the counsel for the accused and remanded them to re-appear on the 28th of this month.

The prosecution told the court presided over by Yaw Bempah that about 2.30 pm on the Ist of this month, during the Kumawu by-election, the accused invited Hajia Maame to the premises of the NDC party’s office where they deliberately assaulted her without provocation. This resulted in a clash between the NDC and NPP women. The accused were subsequently arrested and charged with the offence.
