Advertisers support MCE to enforce standards

The Executive Council of the Advertisers Association of Ghana (AAG) has pledged to support Rita Odoley Sowah, Chief Executive of La Dadekotopon Municipal Assembly, to enforce standards governing outdoor advertisement within the municipality.

They also gave the assurance that members of the association would not contravene the laws stipulated by the assembly to regulate outdoor advertisement.

Norkor Duah, President of the association, affirmed the position at a meeting with the Chief Executive to deliberate on means of collaborating with the assembly to ensure proper standards of outdoor advertisement within the municipality in Accra.

The president, during the discussions, expressed disgust at the influx of some uncertified individuals and companies who mount billboards at unapproved locations and also engage themselves in unprofessional conduct. She indicated that the association was yet to complete arrangements for government legislation to regulate operations of advertisers to ensure sanity in the industry.

Ms. Duah also noted that the association would cooperate and update the assembly with relevant data and reports to facilitate monitoring and other administrative duties of the assembly. She stated that the association, as partners in development, would project the image of the assembly because it was an infant assembly which came into existence barely a year ago.

Rita Odoley Sowah responded by stressing that there was the need to collaborate with major stakeholders in the decentralization processes in the development of communities and called for an all-inclusive approach to help the assembly attain greater heights.

She used the occasion to appeal to residents within the municipality to refrain from erecting structures at unapproved locations and also urged the public to familiarise themselves with the boundaries of the newly created assembly.

She said the advertisers contribute to revenue generated by the assembly; therefore she would outline measure to facilitate their operations and promote cordial relationships. Norkor Duah congratulated the Chief Executive on her appointment and presented copies of the association’s constitution and other documents to serve as reference to the assembly.
