“Okyeame Dogo” Passes Away

Evans Amoah-Boateng (a.k.a.“Okyeame Dogo”)Passes Away
The sudden sudden death is reported of Evans Amoah Boateng aka “Okyeame Dogo”, a towering cultural icon in the Ghanaian Community in Canada. He passed away on Saturday 3rd, August 2013 at the age of 66 years. A former resident of Toronto, Canada’s largest City, and home to the largest Ghanaian community in Canada, Okyeame Dogo spent most of his life in Canada actively engaged in promoting the rich Ghanaian cultural heritage to the Canadian populace and the entire world. His sudden passing has certainly created a vacuum in the Ghanaian-Canadian community which will be very difficult to fill. He is survived by wives Mercy Nyakoah, Christiana Manko and 12 children.

“Dogo” spared no efforts in promoting Ghanaian cultural heritage at every opportunity in Canada. He made contacts with high-level politicians and other Canadian residents and impressed upon them the rich Ghanaian culture. It was difficult at times to tell which part of Ghana Okyeame Dogo hailed from as his cultural promotion cut across ethnic lines. He was always present at all cultural shows and festivals promoted and celebrated by various Ghanaian ethnic groups in Canada. He was well versed in the intricacies of other world cultures as well. He was truly an cultural icon and will be dearly missed. A minute’s silence was observed for him at the recent Ghanafest at the Earl Bales Park. The funeral arrangement have been announced as follows: Visitation is on Friday September 27, 2013 at Demarco Funeral Home, 8003 Weston Road @Hwy #7/Weston Road. Time 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Church Service on Saturday September 28, 2013 at Ghana Calvary Methodist United Church, 65 Mayall (Wilson/Jethro). Time 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm followed by funeral celebration at the Apostles’ Continuation Church, 10 Belfield Road on Saturday September 28, 2013 from 6:00 pm – 3:00 am.
