Ignore unnecessary criticisms - NPP to Gov't

The Chairman of the Liberal Democrats, an affiliate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mustapha Ahmed Sanah, has asked President Kufuor's administration to remain focussed and ignore nominal criticisms of its style of leadership.

"It is normal for every administration to come under fire from opponents and the media, but if such criticisms were not constructive it should be treated with the contempt it deserved," Mr. Sanah told the Ghana News Agency in in Accra.

Mr. Sanah said the NPP had stuck to its liberal democratic principles byrepealing the Criminal Libel Law and ensuring that the citizenry enjoyed unfettered fundamental human rights.

"The party had kept faith with the Danquah-Busia Political Heritage and it is gratifying that the NPP is celebrating 10 years of its existence as the government of the day.

"This tract record should not call for complacency, arrogance, arbitrary use of power and amassing of wealth."

Mr. Sanah said the massive corruption previous administrations were accused of should be confronted under the context of the declaration of "Zero Tolerance For Corruption."

He said alleged revelations of political irregularities involving the former President Jerry John Rawlings’ administration should not be "swept under the carpet or trivialised as political vindictiveness." "Ex- President Rawlings and his team should co-operate with statutory organisations like the Serious Fraud Office and the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice to clean the balanced sheet. This is the only way we can woo investors under the Golden Age of Business," he said.
