President not obliged to appoint 'known persons' - Ayariga

Information Minister Mahama Ayariga has told Citi News that President John Mahama is not obliged to appoint people known in political circles into ministerial positions.

The president has been criticised for appointing persons relatively unknown in the country’s politics.

But Mr Ayariga explained that President Mahama does sufficient consultation before nominating persons for ministerial positions.

“It should be a familiar pattern now that President John Dramani Mahama is noting widely when recruiting people to serve in government as Ministers and Deputy Ministers," he said.

According to him, the president’s focus in selecting the Ministers “is their ability to deliver and that they are Ghanaians and that they are willing to promote the government’s agenda and that they are capable. That is what we are looking at".
