Late Egypt strike down Black Satellites

Ghana Under-20 side lost 1-2 to Egypt at the ongoing Africa Youth Championship in Algeria on Saturday evening.

The Black Satellites were the first to concede in the 67-minute via a goal from Mahmoud Hamad from a free kick, but equalised nine minutes later courtesy Ebenezer Assifuah.

That brought some appreciable level of hope to the 2009 Africa and World champions, but a penalty awarded the north Africans in the 87-minute became the killjoy.

Egyptian Saleh Gomaa stepped forward to convert brilliantly to beat goalkeeper Eric Antwi to give his side the much-needed win to lift them to the top of the summit on three points, followed by hosts Algeria with one then Benin after both sides drew goalless in the opening game with Ghana sitting at the bottom with nothing to account for.

The Black Satellites’ next game is against Benin on March 19.
