Gay rights activists will not succeed - Palmer-Buckle

The Metropolitan Archbishop of Accra, Most Reverend Charles Gabriel Palmer-Buckle is optimistic gay activists will not succeed in their efforts because of the presence of "the silent majority of Ghanaians."

Palmer-Buckle who was speaking in an exclusive interview with Citi News on the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI noted that the rapidly changing moral standards and the geopolitical interests in the world have caused countries to compromise their stance on the right things.

He was optimistic that Ghanaians were going to be victorious in the "war against homosexuality."

“I do not have fears because I believe God has always been in control. I can also say that if people will keep their ears to the ground and eyes open, you will realise that the quiet majority is not in favour of this,” he stated.

“In America today, people are beginning to contest abortion, contraception given freely everywhere and gay rights. There is a ground swell coming up gradually that is saying 'no let’s get back to basics and moral issues that are safe and healthy for humanity'! ”

“It’s a loud minority and unfortunately many politicians because they are looking for votes are ready to espouse a certain loud minority as against a silent majority,” he added.

Most Reverend Palmer-Buckle also stated that people who were fighting for the rights of homosexuals had misconstrued the concept of fundamental human rights.

“With the Western world becoming very secularized and hedonistic, it’s a pity one has to say this. The Western world is eating up all the values that with the help of Christianity, has come to give to the world like the Universal Human Rights Declaration,” he said.

“Pope Benedict XVII has had it really rough helping people understand what freedom is. With freedom comes moral responsibility and people should be taught to understand not only the expression of freedom but also the moral responsibility,” he stated.
