Two of these fundamental rights are those of association and expression. They are as relevant in Azerbajain as they are in Ghana and Zambia. These are rights Oye is defending and advocating. She is not advocating the legalisation of homosexuality. She is defending the right of people with a different sexual orientation to live in freedom away from fear of being criminalised and subjected to violent physical, verbal and emotional abuse.

I am somewhat baffled by some of our "educated" folks who think that if anyone is against homosexuality that person has to be backward or lacking respect for human rights.

I have had the opportunity to travel to and also lived in many places in this world and one thing I have learned is that every society has what is acceptable or unacceptable to them depending on their beliefs and customs. There are Ghanaians and other Africans who whole heartedly believe that whatever is acceptable in Eurocentric societies like Britain and America has to be good and therefore should be accepted by Ghanaians or Africans, but that is totally WRONG!

In America and some European countries it is unacceptable to practice polygamy and if anyone engages in polygamy they are arrested, prosecuted and sent to jail. Why will polygamy be considered a crime when almost all the biblical prophets practiced it? And why is polygamy a crime when it is a social contract entered into by consenting adults? The only answer to these questions is because Eurocentric societies are against it due to their own beliefs.

If Eurocentric societies are so much against polygamy to the extent that they throw people in jail for practicing it why can't Ghanaians and Africans reject homosexuality to the extent that they can legislate against it and also deny government appointments to those who promote it?

Everyone walks about doing their private business and nobody gives a toss. All of a sudden some want to be the centre of attention. Go and be the centre of attention to those who are interested, but dont try to subject the rest of us into acceptance by force.

Put your thinking cap on and argue like an educated person that you seem to be. What did you say? CRIMINALS AND PAEDOPHILES" The paedophiles according to the laws of Ghana are criminals for being paedophile so nobody can defend them for what they do which is criminalized. Lesbians are women and gays are men, right? That is the only distiction we need. They don't have special needs, they walk, talk and do everything just like everyone else, so what exactly do you want discussed about them. Why do you think I need a piece of legislation on how I should think about people I cannot even identify. They are not a different race.

I loose sleep, because children die, people are abused, negleted, hungry and abandoned. That, I loose sleep about and I would like to discuss it.
Why do I have to discuss anything about able-bodied men and women, who engage in private activities which according to you, is not even criminal under the law.

There is not enough time in a day, to do what I feel is important and that preoccupation is more pressing than discussing people just for the sake of it.

Paedophiles and criminals are wrong in what they do because often it is non-consenting, damaging and exploitative.

Simple. It is mischievous to conflate the argument any other way. If two grown women, with lives and jobs want to roll around in the sack together then it need not do any harm to society. Ghana needs to become more tolerant, unless it wants to be stuck in the dark ages. All of the innovative, progressive countries have good human rights when it comes to sexual orientation.
