Another brake failure causes motor accident at Kotokoraba

A driver of a Benz bus travelling from Mankessim to Cape Coast lost control of the steering wheel when it brake failed and collided with an Urvan bus on Thursday.

It occurred at the same spot at Aseda junction where three people lost their lives last Wednesday at Kotokuraba.

The Urvan bus was from Twifo Praso to Kotokuraba when the accident happened but no casualties were recorded.

According to Prince Larbi, a passenger on the Urvan bus, when the 405 Benz bus hit their bus the driver lost control and hit a taxi but fortunately the taxi cab was not damaged and nobody sustained any injury.

The Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Bernard Norgah who is the Second in command at the Regional Motor Transport and Traffic Unit (MTTU) was at the scene and told the GNA that often times, drivers are aware of the faults with their vehicles but fail to pay attention to them.

He said mechanical faults were the causes of many accidents and therefore advised drivers to ensure that they undertake regular maintenance in other to prevent or reduce accidents.

It will be recalled that last week Wednesday, an Urvan bus driver lost control of his vehicle when his braks developed a fault and run into pedestrians, killing one instantly and two died at the hospital.

People around the area who witnessed the accident appealed to the authorities to put measures in place to curb accidents at the spot.

The Central Region office of the National Road Safety Commission had identified that junction as a “black spot” with the Regional Manager, Mr. Stephen Anokye, calling for a road audit by the Ghana Highways Authority to stem the rampant accidents occurring there.
