Fellow Ghanaians
This article is diamond bright! This one is for the ages! You've truly laid or revealed the full truth behind the headline-making news of their legal tragedies, a jihadiast tradition. Andy, you have also captured the sense of the average Ghanaian-that much of the nonsense we see going on around these poor NPPians is just plain crazy.
Again Andy, this is full of verve, humor and insight. You've become a Ghanaian phenomenon. Just keep writing!

Kawumume, you are an idiot. Some of you have access to internet cafes so you sit behind a computer and write and feed trash to the public. It is not about political leaning..it is about Justice Atubugah having a family member in a high ranking position as executive secretary to the president, the same president whose case that Atubugah is going to sit on. He should have recused himself if he was honorable.

Andy, I hope you did not have a bad dream the night before you wrote this. Why are you taking it on us the readers? Without knowing the family and political connections amongst the SC Justices, I posted an article on this subject last Friday. I had to send another to Ghanaweb last night to redeem or recuse myself from almost accusing the SC of bad judgement. Now that I know, I agree that the objection was a serious error of judgement on the part of Nana Akufo Addo et al Legal Team.
Just clam down because if one really follows NDC/NPP political machinations, one could become an enemy to himself or herself.
Well, now that the President had entered his defence at the SC, the veil of presidential immunity has been lifted and Ghana should be ready for future suits against the President and Presidents in the future.

2. For a long time, the only place you could study law in Ghana was in Legon ending up at the Makola school. Prior to that you did correspondence course and went to complete your studies in the UK. Those who did it that way are either dead or retired. It stands to reason that the present crop of justices at the country's higher courts went to the same law school probably around the same time. We are a tiny country. It will be difficult to constitute a court where the justices do not know each other, the litigants and defendants rather very very well. We should really stop reading too much into the "connections" of the justices that will render them incapable of sitting on the case or aspects of it. I agree with you there.
3. Experience has also shown that even though justices of the SC may be appointed by presidents according to their ideological leanings, once they are sworn in as justices, they become rather independent. Very much so. The president cannot dismiss those judges and they have no fear of any such retributions. For many of them, this will be a time for writing judgements that will go into the legal records. Will they want to be remembered for the wrong reasons?
But I've wondered about one thing. What's the retirement age of justices of the Supreme court? Do you know that, Andy? I don't seem to see anything of it in the constitution. I take it it's the normal 60 for all Ghanaians which means Akufo-Addo can seek to become head of state at an age at which a former justice of the court is long in retirement.
4. Most students combine Law with P Science and may have had FUE and/or BA Pt 1 P Science before going on the specialize in their Law. (Now they say levels cos that's what America says). Andy, is it not possible that this much P. Science will teach them something basic that you know even though they didn't majore in P. Science like you?
5. As for that other thing, I won't mention it even though I was itching to. Just to inform that I've been keeping a tally if it all from each article and contribution of yours. It's become quite a tidy pile now... lol!

Yes, I am aware that law students take P.Science for at least 2 years, as it is the natural combination for studying law. But the two years certainly isn't enough to
inculcate in them the principles and spirit of governance and political institutions, so it appears. The failure of the state in Africa can be blamed on our lawyers, who are over-represented in politics, too.
In a way, it is a wider problem of lack of political socialisation and acculturation in these essential Western concepts that extends to the whole society. What is the state of civics education amongst half the pop. that have [some] formal education, bla, bla, bla?

You know something about that? Is it the same 60 as public/civil servants, just as the justices are becoming very experienced? The state universities are giving 2x2 year special extensions to lecturers who hit 60 so they can hang on till 64. I think that's a good idea. According to reliable info, judges can retire voluntarily at 60. However, the official retirement age for magistrates and high court judges is 65. For Appeal and Supreme Court justices, it is 70, even though they have the voluntary retirement age pegged at 60.
Yes, I think it is good idea to extend the retirement age from 60 so that those who are capable can work up to at least 64 in Ghana, considering our lower life span compared to the developed countries. 60 should be made voluntary retirement age. I believe that, just like Afari Gyan, I'd be still kicking butts well into the 60s. I think A-Gyan has become wobbling though, with that NVNV fiasco and must retire.
As I believe you might be aware, the extension of the retirement age is a hot issue in Europe, with opponents claiming that the govts want them to work until they drop dead, in order to reduce the looming pension gap contribution problem, with people living longer.

Yes, my people here want to raise the retirement age to 67! The protests aren't so high. It's only Frenchmen who want to work short hours and short periods of their lives. And lazy Greeks too. But in Ghana we can't afford to raise the age above 60 across the board. Good that exceptions are made for certain vital professions. But my father - the old village head teacher - retired at 60 and lived for 24 more years in relatively good health before kicking it. Well, that's my personal take in this... Will you take me to task for it? Lol.

Additionally, let the President bring in all the 4,800 witnesses to Court. Don't forget that this is a documentary evidence case and all the 4,000 plus election documents will be produced. Kwadwo,
I didn't say I was the smartest in the class but among the 2 percentile top ranking. When I put in my best, instead of having a good time as was the norm every weekend and some evenings (good patron at Legon Cafeteria), I even managed to top the class in some subjects, or get same grade as those who burn the cliche midnight candle each night! That's good enough for me! I was nobody's dunce, as my teachers/lecturers and classmates/ course mates would testify. You don't get a Distinction at the O'L if you are not good! And Norwegian lecturers don't shake your hands after exams for nothing!
I used better grades to read Pol. Science at Legon than some used to read law, etc., in some other years. Besides, I also have a degree in Administration and Econs, before my Mphil in Administration and Organization Theory. So Pol. Science was just my 1st degree and I am not bragging about it. It simply thought me certain principles which I am saying are not being displayed in this case.
Ok. This is not about me but what the so-called smartest in charge of our country or are trying to take control of our country and their vocal and vacuous supporters are dishing out to us. I have raised my challenges and arguments as to the rightness, sanity, principleness, etc. of what they are doing. I wish you guys who think you are also good, or smarter than me, challenge and punch holes in my arguments rather than worry about my not being the smartest in the house, since you are!
Give me your best shot and leave the ad hominem out!

Incidentally, I don't eat kenkey and abolo. In fact, I wasn't even eating akple as a kid until much later. And when I told my sister I ate fufu and palm soup on New Year day, she was surprised and asked whether I had started eating fufu! Actually started during my national service with no choice.
Anyway, go away! Let what we write reflect what we have all learned, not the grades and classes or level of degrees we got. A sophomore at times makes more sense than some PhD holders on Ghanaweb, and may know certain things even much better.
