Former Prez Rawlings casts his ballot at PWD I centre

Former President Jerry John Rawlings on Friday cast his ballot at the PWD One polling station near the Osu Castle and said he expected the will of the people to be respected.

“The spirit of determination is quite admirable. There is nothing that can be rewarding than the determination that is being shown by the people and this must be respected,” he said, adding that some of the people had to sacrifice to be in the queues as early as possible to cast their votes.

Former President Rawlings arrived at the polling centre at about 1045 hours amidst cheers from the residents who run along his vehicle and the voters in the queue did not hide their excitement shouting his name.

He then went straight to check his name and cast his ballot for both the Presidential and Parliamentary.

“It is healthy and pretty from what I have seen and I sincerely hope that other places should also be gentle and orderly,” Former President Rawlings told journalists after the vote.

Electoral Officials at the PWD one and two polling stations told the Ghana News Agency that voting was progressing steadily and there had been no hitches so far.

Mr Victor Kojo Dadson, Presiding Officer at PWD two said more than 40 people out of 163 on the electoral roll had voted as at about 1000 hour and expressed the hope that it was likely all on the roll could cast their ballots before 1500 GMT.
