CPP must align with NDC- K.B. Asante

K.B. Asante, retired diplomat and Secretary to the late Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, is advising the CPP to work closely with NDC to ensure the party revives its vibrant Nkrumaist vision.

This advice comes on the back of a suggestion by leading CPP member and renowned South Africa-based international economist Dr. Nii Moi Thompson for the party to merge with the NDC because it is the only way the CPP can realise its Nkrumaist vision.

But K.B. Asante told Joy News the CPP could work with the NDC without necessarily merging with the NDC.

He warned that the CPP could become invisible if it merges with the NDC, stressing, “they would be swallowed up.”

“What the CPP can do now is to work so closely with [the NDC,] in so doing the CPP would be able to press the Nkrumaist visions in this alliance, but if it merges I think it would be submerged and would not have a vibrant Nkrumaist tradition.”

However, in an interview with Joy News, CPP General Secretary Nii Armah Akomfrah said re-aligning with the NDC, a social democratic party, would not promote the interests of the country.

Would such a goal, he asked, not simply “ensure that there is a two-party system in Ghana to entrench their polarisation further?”

He maintained that, “I don’t think at the moment the CPP has any intention of merging with any other party other than the merger which we agreed with the PNC.”
