NDC are liars- Nana Konadu

Former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings has expressed disgust about the level of falsehood being peddled by leading members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) about their founder and former President Jerry John Rawlings.

This was in view of the fact that some leading members have sought to interpret a peace campaign being embarked upon by her husband, Mr Rawlings, to be a campaign for incumbent President John Dramani Mahama.

Mr Rawlings has taken it upon himself to go round the country to campaign for peace ahead of the 2012 general election instead of campaigning for any political party, including his own NDC.

Some within the NDC have however misinterpreted this to mean the former President was going round campaigning for President Mahama in a bid to win sympathy votes.

Mrs Rawlings told reporters in Accra yesterday, “If the man is your founder, there should be a certain level of decorum where you don’t cross that lies, insults and putting things on his head that he has not said at all.

“In a party where you have a founder who is permanently being pummeled with things that are not true is totally not acceptable.” Bemused at the trend which she said had been going on for the past three weeks,

Mrs Rawlings, who is the President of the 31st December Women Movement (DWM), said, “I don’t even want to say it’s unfortunate because everybody says things are unfortunate but what exactly do they mean; this is unacceptable.”

She noted, “I thought that NDC had some scruples; I mean the last three years, we’ve thrown the scruples out of the window and the lies that they go and perpetuate to their members even against my husband is very sad, it’s just not right.”

EC Under Fire

The former first lady accused the Electoral Commission (EC) of breaching the country’s law with impunity.

That, she said, was because “the EC failed to follow the laws of both the Commission and the laws of Ghana,” in rejecting her application as flag bearer of NDP.

“The laws say that when somebody’s documents are not okay, you should give them 24 hours to correct and you should indicate on that person’s paper what it is that they find wrong; before you make comments to the public about it to the person.

He didn’t do that. He didn’t give me 24 hours.”

She said because the EC was wrong, that informed her decision to drag it to court for not following procedure. The presiding judge has set November 30 to make a final decision on the case.
