MUSIGA stages peace concert in Kumasi

The Ashanti Region witnessed a spectacular event over the weekend when the Musicians Union of Ghana, MUSIGA, staged a peace concert at the Jubilee Park on Saturday November 10th 2012. The event was preceded by a float through some principal streets of Kumasi to create more awareness about the concert and to preach peace before, during and after the upcoming general elections on December 7th 2012.

The event also doubled as the launching pad of the MUSIGA PEACE COMPILATION ALBUMS. This peace compilation album started when the Union asked artists with peace songs to send in their materials. The project was supposed to produce one compilation album but because of the good lyrics and composition of the various tunes, the Judges, Paulina Oduro, Nana Poku Osei and Bessa Simmons could not settle on the ten tracks that they had been tasked to come up with. Instead they settled on twenty two tracks which were divided into two albums.

The launching of the compilation albums was done by the President of the Union, Bice Osei Kuffour. The first copies were auctioned by Kwesi Ernest, a onetime Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the Union. The albums are available in all music outlets in Ghana.

The Peace Concert witnessed performances from some of the Artists whose songs got onto the compilation albums. There were also performances by some renowned artists with the performer of the night, arguably going to Samini who performed and kept the audience thrilled for close to an hour.

Nana Tuffour and Nana Aboagye DaCosta also gave stunning performances. Tic Tac, Bra Ernest, Osei Matthew, Asem, Tinny, Eduwodji, Nhyiraba Kojo, Amoako Jnr, Honorable and Reverend Mensah Bonsu are some of the artists who performed.

Messages of Peace and unity were preached throughout the night through the various musical performances. MUSIGA believes that music has always been a strong communicator and so through music, messages of violence can be eschewed from our politics.

This is the Union’s way of contributing to a peaceful election which is believed to be priority for Ghanaians at this time.

The Peace Concert will witness a second staging in the capital, Accra, on Saturday December 1st 2012.
