Anger in SIC board over top post

The board of the State Insurance Company (SIC) is fuming with anger, following the vilification of some of its top management members by certain invisible hands.

Miss Lydia Lariba Bawa, the Kumasi Area Manager of the company, has been at the receiving end of media bashing in recent times.

But a member of the board (name with held) has insisted that the vilification of Miss Bawa is because she has applied for the position of Managing Director, which is presently vacant.

“The whole agenda is to scare that woman who has served the company for thirty years in her quest to lead the company”, the source said.

“The attacks on the woman from one particular media organisation are too much and it started when the position became vacant”, he said.

Mr. Benjamin Acolatse, former Managing Director of the SIC, was relieved of his post in June, this year for some unknown reasons.

The board member in a lengthy conversation with The Enquirer said that Miss Bawa has the prospect of becoming the managing director and that is why some wicked persons are destroying her.

“You see, it is very sad that the woman is being treated this way because her application for the position does not mean that she has been offered the position as she will be competing with others”, the source said.

“In attempting to vilify the hardworking woman, those behind this vicious move are rather destroying the good image of SIC”, he said.

“SIC as a company has strong inbuilt controls that check arbitrariness on the part of Area Managers and that alone should tell people that Miss Bawa cannot and is never having her way as the mischief makers want the whole world to believe,” the source said.

According to the source, the woman has worked with SIC for 30 years with a solid working track record and the appointment of a management director is not done by one person.

“These same persons started going to the media with stories on the Board Chairman which they themselves knew were not true”, he said.

“An honest analysis from the records of the company which is there for even the detractors to know, reveals that Miss Bawa assumed office in Kumasi as the Area Manager when production performance was below target and has worked tirelessly to achieve and even exceeded the target for the office since then, due to her experience in various capacities over the past years she has served SIC, backed by her string of qualifications”, the source said.

According to the board member, Miss Bawa has the ability to motivate and train staff working under her so that she has no difficulty in delegating specific assignments.

The board member told The Enquirer Miss Bawa has never known peace after she applied for the same position some time back and that she is supposed to occupy a higher position than being an Area Manager.

“In fact, certain strange decisions have previously been taken against the woman which I think was too bad but she has always been silent and swallows the extremely bitter pills”, he said.

It would be recalled that the Board Chairman, Mr. Max Cobbinah, not too long ago, was also bashed in the media and it is believed that the same people are orchestrating what is happening to Miss Bawa.
