Hand chopped off in Nima-Mamobi bloody clash

A confrontation between some youth from Nima and Mamobi in a night club at Adabraka left one person’s hand chopped off and another’s skull broken.

After this incident, the Nima group went to block the road around the Dunia Cinema in Nima in an attempt to deny the Mamobi group access to Mamobi.

In the process, taxi drivers were attacked with their mobile phones and money seized. The Nima Police were also attacked when they got to the scene between Dunia Cinema and the Nima Gutter.

Speaking to XYZ News, the Greater Accra Regional PRO, DSP Freeman Tettey, said at the night club a little confusion broke out resulting in a fight, “and in the process one of the young men had his hand chopped off then the other one also had a broken skull.”

In an attempt to stage a reprisal attack, two men identified only as Faisal and Buju from Nima mobilized a group of young men in order to prevent the Mamobi lads from getting away. They reportedly raided vehicles and attacked by-standers in their quest to exact revenge

The injured are however yet to be identified.

In connection with the violence, the police arrested thirteen people between the ages of seventeen and thirty-eight as the police continue with investigation.

DSP Freeman Tettey stressed that the police will be tough on people who want to take the law into their own hands.

“We want our young men and women to know that there is law in this country. The police will not sit down for people to take the law into their own hands. The Regional Command will be tough any person who wants to take the law into their own hands,” he assured.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Nima Neighborhood Watch says the clash that occurred in the area between two youth groups could have been avoided if the neighborhood watch in the area had been well resourced.

Speaking to XYZ News the Neighborhood Watch Chairman Amadu Ibrahim said crime cases in the area could be dealt with if the neighborhood watch is given some recognition by the police and assistance by government and other stakeholders.

He said such fiery bust-ups are not uncommon in Nima due to the internet fraudsters (Sakawa) who have taken over the area. He said these fraudsters have entourages made up of their personal bodyguards and trouble makers who pounce on every opportunity to spill blood.

He appealed to the Ministry of the Interior to offer them the needed recognition so as to bring such community violence to the barest minimum.
