N. Star Tomato Factory threatened by Bagre Dam spillage

The Northern Star Tomato Processing Factory, at Pwulugu in the Upper East Region is facing imminent collapse as flood water from the Bagre Dam in Burkina Faso has taken over the facility.

Workers of the company have been forced to shut down the plant while efforts are being made to pump the water out of the factory.

This comes days after floods destroyed some homes and a major bridge near Bolgatanga, displacing scores in the process.

The Regional Minister and officials of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) are visiting the site to assess the extent of damage.

Patrick Akake, the NADMO coordinator for the region told XYZ News the rate at which the flood is entering the Tomato Factory leaves much to be desired and that by evening, if much is not done to curtail the flow of the water, a great portion of the factory will be immersed in the water.

“I have reported to the regional Minister”, he said, adding the media will be transported to the areas worst hit by the flood.
