Minister, MP in big row over PAC chair

Inusah Fuseini, Deputy Minister of Energy and Deputy Chairman for the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), Kwaku Agyeman Manu, are at each other's throat over how the chairman of the committee should conduct himself in exercising his duties.

The minister, who doubles as Member of Parliament for Tamale Central have accused PAC Chairman, Albert Kan Dapaah of partiality against people suspected to be sympathizers of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and has therefore, called for his immediate removal from the committee.

He cited the chairman's decision to cause the arrest of businessman Alfred Woyome, after he failed to appear before the committee, to buttress his claims.

“I must acknowledge that Hon. Kan Dapaah is an intelligent accountant but as far as I am concern, he has been very bias in discharging his duties on the committee and it is important he resigns for work to progress,” the minister told an Accra based radio station in Accra on Monday.

But in a sharp rebuttal, Hon. Agyeman Manu has described the Minister's assertion as 'wishful thinking' and ill-conceived.

Though he admitted that Hon. Fuseini is entitled to his opinions and thoughts but added he could not in any way call for the resignation of Hon. Kan Dapaah, stressing he should mind his own business.

“In the first place, who should remove Kan-Dapaah? Does he want to become chairman for a committee that is chaired by the opposition, he doesn’t belong to our party so why this? If he has any serious problem he should petition the speaker and stop this radio business,” Hon. Agyeman Manu replied.
