Five Heads of State arrive for Mills' funeral

The President of Namibia, Hifikepunye Lucas Pohamba was the first head of state to arrive in the country ahead of President Mills’ final funeral rites at the Independence Square, Accra, on Friday.

President Pohamba is the first President to arrive in the country with other Presidents expected in the country before tomorrow.

The heads of state of Tanzania, Jakaya Kikwete, NIger, Mahamadou Issoufou and as well as the Sierra Leoneane president have all arrived in the country. Kenya's Vice President is also in town.

President Mills’ body is currently lying in state at the Banquet Hall in Accra where thousands of Ghanaians and dignitaries from all over the world are filing past to pay their last respect.

Already Mr. Djinnit Said, Special Representative of the UN to West Africa, Mr. Kassa Tekleberihan, Speaker of the House of Federation in Ethiopia, Mr. Gilbert Pasquet, Special Envoy to the President of Haiti and Mr. Malefetsane Mohahafa, a Special Representative of the Kingdom of Lesotho have arrived in the country to join Ghanaians mourn the late President.

The US Secretary of State, Mrs Hillary Clinton and four Special envoys from the United States of America as well as the President of the African Union Commission, Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma are all expected to arrive in the country ahead of President Mills’ funeral.

The Leaders are President Thomas Yayi Boni of Benin and Chairman of AU; Alassane Outtara, Cote d’Ivoire and chairman of the ECOWAS; Theodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, Equatorial Guinea; Blaise Campaore of Burkina Faso.

Others are President Hifikepunye Pohamba of Namibia; President Faure Gnassingbe of Togo; Ellen Sirleaf Johnson of Liberia; Dr Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria.

The rest are Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe of South Africa; Yahya J. Jameh of the Gambia and Macky Sall of Senegal.**
