T- Poly Lecturers To Boycott Exams

…OVER ¢293 BILLION EVENING SCHOOL ALLOWANCE

Intelligence report available to the DAILY DEMOCRAT hints of tension at the Takoradi Polytechnic campus involving lecturers, Non-teaching staff and management as funds meant for the payment of evening school allowances to over 431 lecturers and other staff this semester cannot be accounted for by the Rector, Rev Prof. Daniel Agyekum Nyarko.
According to the information, the lecturers suspect that monies lodged into the school’s account through the school paying HND students and non-tertiary students under the evening programme have been misappropriated.
At the end of each semester, a committee evaluates what is due each lecturer based on his/her credit hours covered under the programme but this semester it suffered a setback because there is no money to pay though students have fulfilled their obligations to the school.
As a result, lecturers have threatened to boycott the ongoing examination if they do not receive their allowances today, Friday 6th July, 2012, which will disrupt the academic calendar once again and bring untold hardship, psychological and financial on students.
Sources at the school expressed worry about the Rector’s behavior and urged stakeholders to address the issue to avoid unnecessary dispute that can affect moral and productivity.
They alleged that the Rector unilaterally acquired a property worth billions of cedis without going through the finance committee, breaching the procurement laws of the state.
It would be recalled that Polytechnic lecturers nationwide called off their strike about three weeks ago to continue with academic work.
