Third phase of biometric registration progresses in Cape Coast

A total of 850 people were registered on Tuesday at three registration centres in the Cape Coast Township since the third phase of the Biometric Voters’ Registration began on Sunday April, 15.

When the GNA visited the centres at NIB, YMCA and Abowenim, officers were seen busily registering eligible voters.

Nii Odartey Lamptey, Officer in charge at the NIB centre, said when the exercise began last Sunday, political party agents were initially bringing people from other areas to register but he advised them to register in their localities.

Instead of one or two political party representatives, he said about eight of them showed up from a particular party and he had to advise them to keep only two, and they obliged.

Nii Lamptey said his centre has so far registered about 270 people since Sunday, saying, they had adequate materials and equipments which were working well.

At the YMCA registration centre, Mr. Ahmed Abdulai, Officer in charge, said his team had so far registered about 280 people and that there were enough materials and equipments for the exercise.

Mr Albert Bainn, Officer in charge at the Egyir Abowenim Rocky Lane centre, said it had two teams initially but had to merge when one of their machines was sent to replace a faulty one at another centre.

He said they were working smoothly except for their printer which broke down but has since been repaired.

There were no security presence at all the centres visited and officers said should the need arise they would not hesitate to call them.**
