Accra, Dec. 23, GNA - The Board of Globacom Limited has said the much anticipated Glo Mobile network will take place in Ghana on Thursday, January 19, 2012.

The announcement was made on Thursday night at the Glo CAF African Footballer of the Year 2011 held at the Banquet Hall in Accra.
Mr. George Andah, Chief Operating Officer of Glo Mobile Ghana, said Globacom’s world class network would go live for commercial voice and data service.
He said this historic event would be heralded by a series of launch activities befitting a highly anticipated occasion of its magnitude.
Mr Andah said: “We will continue to pursue our resolve to provide the needed opportunity for Africa to leap forward economically through an excellent communication network and cost-effective voice, data, video and e-commerce services.”
Globacom, announced last month that it was launch-ready after having completed building its infrastructure which included more than 1,600 Base Transceiver Stations (BTS), five Switches with capacity for 10 million lines, and 18 Base Switching Centres (BSC).
The others are 800 3G Node Bs, a state-of-the-art Call Center and 25 Gloworld outlets – all of which form part of an integrated state-of-the-art telecommunications system designed to offer exceptional telephone and internet connectivity to the majority of Ghanaians.
The Glo Mobile Ghana network is a 3.5G Plus system with the latest telecommunication technology such as Next Generation Network and is complemented by the high-capacity Glo 1 submarine fibre-optic cable.
The roll out of the services of Glo Mobile network would also be supported by a 2,900 km-long network of terrestrial fibre optic ring, which has been built across the country.
Mr. Andah said Globacom owed much of its success in Ghana to the support received personally from President John Evans Atta Mills and the Government of Ghana, as well as to the goodwill and understanding of the good people of Ghana.
“The massive support we have received from every strata of the society bolstered our zeal to build in Ghana a robust nationwide network with the most modern, most innovative and the most reliable infrastructure that will tremendously boost the capacity of the people to communicate seamlessly with business associates and loved ones at the most competitive tariffs,” he said.
Mr Andah also thanked Ghanaians for keeping faith with Globacom and assured the country of the company’s resolve to offer a world class telecom network that every Ghanaian will be proud of.
He said Globacom was absolutely certain that its relationship with the Government and people of Ghana would continue to be mutually beneficial and stressed that Glo Mobile Ghana would make good its resolve to contribute to the overall development of “this great country”.
