Woman Flogs MP

A three week opinion polls conducted by your authoritative DAYBREAK in the Ledzokuku Constituency shows that if the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had held its Parliamentary Primaries in the Ledzokuku Constituency in November 2011, the incumbent Nii Nortey Dua would have lost his candidature to former Miss Ghana, Benita Sena Golomeke now Mrs. Benita Sena Okiti Duah.
The polls which surveyed 10 respondents each from the 16 Wards of the NDC in the Ledzokuku Constituency show that the 1997 National Beauty queen and also a former women’s organizer for the constituency would have led the Deputy Sports Minister with a 12 percentage point margin.
When the question, “From a list of Nii Nortey Dua, Mr. Sowah Boye-Sekan, and Madam Sena Golomeke, who would you vote for to represent the NDC in the 2012 Parliamentary Elections” was asked, 79 of the respondents representing 49.38 per cent said they would have voted for the NDC Women’s Organiser, whiles 51 of the respondents representing 31.88 percent said they would have preferred Nii Nortey Dua.
13 of the respondents making 8.13 per cent said they preferred Mr. Sowah Boye Sekan. Out of the 160 respondents, 17 adding up to 10.63 percent were either undecided or refused to disclose who they would have voted for.
The pollsters interviewed the respondents in their homes and at various forums and gatherings of the NDC in the Constituency. 110 of the respondents are all delegates to the forth coming Parliamentary Primaries.
42 of the respondents representing 26 per cent claimed that although they were members of the NDC, they are not delegates to the forth coming Primaries. 5 per cent were neither members of the NDC nor delegates to the Primaries.
The NDC has scheduled Saturday 21st January 2012 to hold its Parliamentary primaries in Constituencies where the party has incumbent MPs.
Nii Nortey Dua has come under a barrage of criticisms over the past 2 years for what observers believe is as a result of his below average performance as MP for the Ledzokuku Constituency.
His nemesis, Benita Sena Okiti Duah is however seen and held very high within the constituency. She enjoys considerable support from the youth and the women of the party in Teshie. Her support for the members and structures of the party in the Constituency is seen as her cardinal point in the run up to the elections.
Sowah Boye-Sekan, a brother of the late Nii Adjei-Boye Sekan, one time Presidential Staffer and first MP for the Ledzokuku Constituency in the Fourth Republic is seen as the outsider. Although he is credited with having admirable organization acumen, he appears to have a low public image within the Constituency.
It is speculated that, the Municipal Chief Executive of the Ledzokuku Constituency, Hon Daniel Amartey may join the race for the bidding of who leads the NDC in Ledzokuku as an MP. However, it is very unlikely that his entrance will have any impact on the chances of any of the fore-runners. He is perceived to be in league with Nii Nortey Dua, and should he even enter, he will withdraw at the eleventh hour and throw his support behind the beleaguered MP.
The Ledzokuku NDC Primaries will draw close to 430 delegates. A contestant needs just a simple majority to be declared as winner.
