SSNIT to introduce condominium concept for workers

Wa, Sept. 13, GNA - The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) is introducing a Condominium Concept for occupants of workers flats by 2012, Madam Doris Antonio, Properties Manager of SSNIT has announced.

She said the system would encourage residents of the estates to form effective management bodies or associations to manage the properties and keep a clean and serene environment.

Madam Antonio made this known at a meeting with Wa Residents Association at the weekend as part of the sensitisation exercise on the Condominium Concept.

She explained that about 92 per cent of housing units belonging to SSNIT have been sold and it was expected that the remaining eight per cent would be disposed off by the end of the year.

Mr Baffour Akoto at the Legal Services Department of SSNIT, explained that a Condominium Property Bill is being drafted to transform the various residents associations into registered corporations.

The corporations would have management boards charged with the responsibility of enforcing the rules and regulations that would be expected to govern the housing estates.

Mr Akoto said when the bill is passed by Parliament into law, it would give legal backing to all residents associations.

Some of the residents appealed to SSNIT to facilitate the provision of water to the estates and also repair damage drains. SSNIT has so far extended the sensitisation exercise to Tamale and Bolgatanga.
