6.25m Euros For Eight Ashanti Districts

The German government has made available 6.25 million Euros to support the infrastructure development of eight Ashanti districts under the District and Town's IV Project.

These are Ejisu-Juaben, Ahafo-Ano South, Ahafo-Ano North, Afigya-Sekyere, Asante-Akim North, Atwima, Kwabre and Asante-Akim South.

Physical facilities to be provided under the project include basic schools, health centres and rural clinics, markets, lorry parks, artisan areas and limited extensions to existing water supply systems.

It is jointly implemented by the governments of Ghana and Germany.

Mr Sampson Kwaku Boafo, Ashanti Regional Minister, announced this at the opening of an information workshop on the project, in Kumasi on Wednesday.

He noted that the project would tremendously influence the pace and sustainability of the region's socio-economic development and asked the beneficiary district assemblies to work hard to meet the conditions for the implementation of the programme.

The Regional Minister said the implementation of the project was the result of the successful and excellent execution of earlier ones, which he mentioned as the District Capitals I and II and the District Towns III Projects.
