Australian Parliamentarians visit gold mine

Salman (W/R), April 15, GNA - An eight-member parliamentary delegation from Australia has paid a day's working visit to the Adamus Resource Limited, operators of Nzema Gold in the Nzema East District. The Adamus Gold Resource is managed by an Australian company. The delegation toured the gold plant, resettlement site and interacted with trainees and a section of the community after which Mr Joel Fitzgibbon, leader of the Parliamentary Joint Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade, expressed satisfaction about progress of work.

Mr Fitzgibbon said he was impressed about the modern technology being used to develop a site to resettle the community that had been displaced by the project.

Mr William Billy Williams, the Australian High Commissioner in Ghana, said his country would continue to explore investment opportunities in Ghana.

He said the establishment of the Adamus Gold Resource would not only help to open up the area but would create jobs for the youth who are also being trained to acquire skills in various fields. Mr Attie Roux, General Manager of the Adamus Resource, said the company was developing a vast plot of land to re-settle the communities that have been affected by the project. He said schools, market, clinic, roads and a housing project have almost been completed for occupation.

During interaction, some of the school children appealed to the parliamentary delegation to supply them with books to stock their library while others appealed for an Information Technology Centre. Some of the community members expressed gratitude to the management of the Admaus Gold Resource for the resettlement but called work to be speeded up.
