STL Saves Aminah’s Soul

Aminah Nusah, a patient at the Korle–Bu Teaching Hospital, in Accra, whose daughter had to stop schooling for two years and sit by her at the hospital, has finally received a donation of ¢15,000 to pay the entire cost of her surgery, which is scheduled to take place in a few weeks time.

Her plight touched the Managing Editor of The Insight newspaper, Mr. Kwesi Pratt, Jnr., who embarked on a campaign to seek assistance for her. Following the campaign, Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Works and Housing, Dr. Hannah Bisiw, went all out to further attract other philanthropists. Her move caught the attention of a private company, Superlock Technologies Limited (STL), and it donated GH¢12,500 out of the GH¢15,000 needed to save the woman’s life.

Making the presentation to the Korle Bu Hospital authorities last Wednesday, Dr. Bisiw, who raised GH¢2,000, said she was moved by the story of Aminah. “I wanted to help and I am very happy that we are here today to make this life changing donation,” she said. She remarked that the case of Aminah is one out of the many that is yet to come to the public domain, saying “there are a lot of cases in our hospitals who need similar assistance to make their lives better and we thank The Insight newspaper, for taking this initiative.” The CEO of STL, which donated ¢12,500, Mr. Yaron Tai Said, the company has over the years contributed to the social development of Ghana in various forms. “We have embarked on education, sports and other sponsorship requests that come our way,” he said. He added, “When we read the story when it was first published we knew that we had to contribute to this noble cause. As a company, we are happy to be part of this experience and we wish to continue in the future,” He urged all businesses in Ghana to take their social commitments seriously, saying “if every business in Ghana, be it foreign or local, would solve one social problem with the little they get Ghana will be a better place.” The family and the hospital authorities expressed their appreciation to the minister, STL and The Insight newspaper for making the surgery possible. A month ago, the Insight newspaper started a campaign to raise GH¢15,000 for a hip bone transplant at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for Aminah, who has been there for two years, awaiting surgery but could not afford it.
