Entrepreneurial skills would help reduce unemployment- Ama Blay

Tamale, Jan.25, GNA - The Rev Ama Afo Blay, Board

Chairman of the Junior Achievers Trust International (JATI), on

Tuesday appealed to the youth to acquire entrepreneurial skills and

set up their own businesses.

This would make them creative and productive and also help

reduce the high unemployment rate in the country.

She said this at the inauguration of the offices of the JATI and

the launch of the programme for the northern sector in Tamale.

JATI is an NGO involved in entrepreneurship training for

young people especially students in second cycle schools.

In addition JATI also operates the brilliant but needy student's

sponsorship package by which it pays the approved fees for them.

JATI also operates a Life Education Assurance Programme

(LEAP) in collaboration with the State Insurance Company (SIC).

Rev Blay, a former Director General of the Ghana Education

Service, said the practice whereby young graduates continue to

complain of lack of employment was unacceptable.

Mr. Paul Yeboah, Chief Executive Officer of JATI, said the

objective of the organisation was to provide continuous education

for the youth who were likely to drop-out of school because of the

incapacitation or death of their parents by giving them LEAP to

complete their education.

JATI also seeks to develop the entrepreneurial skills of the

youth to assist them to become the productive adults of

tomorrow.

Mr. Sam Nasamu Asabigi, the Deputy Northern Regional

Minister, commended JATI for its initiative and said its efforts

would not only help reduce the burden on government to provide

employment but would also in the long-run engineer private sector

led industrialisation.

He urged the Board members of JATI and all its stake holders

to stay committed to the objectives of the organisation and strive

to achieve them for the betterment of future generations.
