UEW authorities extend academic calendar

Winneba Nov. 3, GNA - The authorities of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) have extended its academic calendar to enable the students to make up for the period they missed during the strike action by the lecturers.

According to a press release signed by the Registrar of the University, Mr. C.Y. Akwaa-Mensah, on Monday, with a copy made available to the Ghana News Agency, it stated that examinations which were originally scheduled to start from November 25, would now commence on November 29 to December, 21 2010.

The vacation would also start on the December 22, 2010. Commenting on the decision of the University authorities, the Dean of Students Affairs, Dr. Ernest Awanta, commended the University for taking into consideration the fate of the students. This he said will reduce the pressure on the students and give them enough time to study for the examinations.

He used the opportunity to advise the students to make use of the extension period being given to them.

Mr Richardson Appiadu, Vice-President of the Students Representative Council, (SRC) (UEW), in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, expressed his satisfaction and said that the extension will help the students to catch up on all lost periods. Mr Appiadu on behalf of the SRC President and the student body expressed appreciation to the authorities of the University for their Wise Decision for the students. 3rd Nov. 10
