Vodafone supports Fetu Afahye with GH¢52,000

Accra, Aug. 27, GNA - The management of Vodafone Ghana, the major national telecommunications provider, has donated GH¢52,000 to support this year's Fetu Afahye of the chiefs and people of Cape Coast, in the Central Region.

The package comprise a cheque for GH¢4,000, 10 fully connected mobile phones, GH¢100 airtime, two Vodafone Modems, gun powder and two bottles of Schnapps.

The rest are 100 branded T-shirts, baseball caps, pens and clocks.

It gave assurance to the chiefs and people of Oguaa that the company was keen on developing a strong collaboration with communities to improve their living standards, an official statement said, in Accra.

It said Mr Gideon Asare Sackitey, a media relations consultant for the company, made the presentation, to the 2010 Fetu Afahye Planning Committee, at Cape Coast.

"The company is not only interested in providing telecommunications solutions to the people of Cape Coast and beyond, but also to ensure that the solutions improve their living standards and make them meet their desired objectives," the statement quoted Mr Sackitey as saying.

He said Vodafone was proud to be associated with the celebration of the festival and expressed the hope that it would be a rallying point for the people of Oguaa to shape the future of their State.

The festival would be marked in the first week of September.

Mr Sackitey appealed to the Planning Committee to come out with a project that would benefit the entire Cape Coast community, adding, "You may want to look at projects such as a water plant, school block or a clinic which everyone in the town can have easy access to or benefit from."

Receiving the items, Nana Kow Ackom V, expressed appreciation to the management of Vodafone for its wisdom and commitment to support the festival and expressed the hope that the people would rise up to the occasion.

She expressed optimism that this year's festival would be remarkable and meet the target and objectives of the organizers and patrons.

"We wish to take the opportunity to invite investors and friends of Cape Coast to come over and support not only the celebration of the festival, but collaborate with the chiefs and people to sustain development in the town," she added.

Outlining the programme for the festival, Mr Michael Tuffuor-Ampem, Trade Marketing Coordinator of Vodafone Ghana, said for the first time in the history of festival sponsorship in Ghana, 93Vodafone would set up a Vodafone Village to register SIM cards, sell products and offer services and games.

There would also be a stand at which a representative of Cape Coast would be recounting the history and socio-economic development of Cape Coast over the years".

There would also be entertainment such as a street carnival, floats, street jams, film shows and a platform for the people to exhibit their economic talents with artifacts.

"The Vodafone Village would be a one-stop shop for fun, music, films for all who would throng the Village. Visitors to the festival can obtain solutions to all of their telecommunication needs and a pool of telecom experts to attend to their special needs," he added.
