Kufuor leaves for South Africa

Accra, Aug 12, GNA - Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has left Accra for Marshalltown, South Africa, as Guest of Honour at a ceremony to launch a book on Africa's under-development.

The 400-page book titled: "Why Africa is Poor and What Can be Done About It" is written by Dr Greg Mills, the Executive Director of the Brenthurst Foundation of the Oppenheimer and Son Group.

A statement signed by his Spokesperson, Mr Frank Agyekum, said the Former President, a member of the Board of Governors of the Foundation, will launch the book at the Oppenheimer Brenthurst Library.

The book is in three parts: The first part examines Why African states have done comparatively badly.

The book concludes that bad policy decisions were the overwhelming reason why some African countries had done badly. It said where African states had done much better, better policy and leadership, stronger and improved democracy had gone hand in hand.

The second aspect focuses on why some countries outside of Africa had done well in terms of human development and economic growth.

The Third part looks at the tremendous opportunities present in Africa in terms of demographic dividend and demand for its resources.

Former President Kufuor returns home on August 14.
