Two Census Committees inaugurated at Awutu Beraku and Winneba

Winneba (C/R), May 26, GNA - The Central Regional Coordinating Director, Mr Kwame Oppong, has called on Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies to continue to support the Ghana Statistical Service to ensure the success of the 2010 Census. Mr Oppong who is also the chairman of the Central Region Census Committee, said this when he inaugurated a 13-member Effutu Municipal Census Implementation Committee at Winneba, headed by the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr Kofi Kussachin. He said the committee will, among other things, be expected to assist in the acquisition of a district office, training venues, recruitment, interviews and training of field workers, educating and sensitizing the public on the importance of the census to ensure the success of the programme. Mr Oppong urged the members to work diligently to enable the programme to achieve its set goal, adding that "you must stand up to the task so that results from the Central Region would be adjudged the best." He cautioned them to manage resources that would be released to them for the census judiciously to the satisfaction of the government and other development partners supporting the programme. Mr Francis Bright Mensah, Central Regional Statistician, charged staff in the Department to embark on a massive education to address key questions and also explain the importance of the census to the people. Mr Mensah had earlier inaugurated an 11-member Awutu-Senya District Census Committee under the chairmanship of Mr Musah Yayah Froko, the Awutu-Senya. District Coordinating Director.
