Unity Oil Boss Honoured

A KUMASI-based business tycoon, Kwame Kyei, has been honoured for his contribution to employment creation in different parts of the country, particularly for the youth.

Mr Kyei, who is the CEO of a number of business outfits including Unity Oil Company Limited, Light FM, Sports Hotel and the Sport Recreational Centre among others, was among five people honoured last Saturday at the Prempeh Assembly Hall in Kumasi for their exemplary leadership.

Rev. Dr. Divine Gabriel Brefo, president of the Peristrofi Masters in Theology School, on behalf of a number of institutions, bestowed the honour on the businessman.

These include Amsterdam University; The Netherlands, Copenhagen University; Denmark, International Pentecostal Charismatic Christian College; Germany and the Japan Bible Institute in affiliation with Peristrofi Masters Theology.

The business mogul has employed about 85 percent females in his various ventures.

His humanitarian support for the needy, particularly students who cannot afford their school and tuition fees, children's homes and needy but brilliant children is outstanding.

On the sidelines of his business activities, he has been the organiser of annual thanksgiving and prayer services, with the latest one attracting as many as 15,000 participants.

Born to poor parents on 2nd February, 1961 in the Greater Accra Region, Mr Kyei is married to Mrs Favour Kyei and blessed with six children.

Kwame Kyei, a Presbyterian, was described by Rev. Brefo as a businessman with a high sense of integrity, objectivity, self- motivation and commitment to serve God.

He started Unity Oil at Taifa near Accra a few years ago, but has today established many branches nationwide. Some of these are found at Ofankor (the head office), Ahwiankwanta, Agona Jamasi, Sunyani, Bantama, Asokwa, Afrancho, Asenua, Boankra, Santasi and Atonsu.

Others are located at Tanoso, Ahodwo and Takoradi.

In his response, the CEO spoke against negligence and lackadaisical attitudes, noting that these have impeded the progress of Ghana's economy.

He also encouraged the youth to strive to employ themselves instead of looking up to Government for employment.

According to the business tycoon, they should not live a 'microwave' lifestyle but rather work hard with a sense of objectivity.

Mr Kyei said the need to make quick money has led the youth to lead wayward livestyles, engaging in sinful activities such as 'sakawa', armed robbery and drug trafficking among others.

The event attracted prominent people in Ghana and beyond including high-profile chiefs.

The ceremony was graced by top gospel musicians such as Ernest Opoku, Cecilia Marfo and Kweku Gyasi.
