Registered orphanages to benefit from free school uniforms/books

Ve-Koloenu, (V/R), Jan. 4, GNA - Registered orphanages in the country will benefit from government's Free School Uniforms and Exercise Books Initiative, Mr Ludwig Hlordze, a Presidential Staffer said on Sunday. He said the initiative was in line with President John Evans Atta Mills' "I Care for You" agenda.

Mr Hlordze said this when he presented assorted items including loaves of bread, canned and bottled soft drinks, rice, toiletries and some candies to the Eugemot Orphanage at Ve-Koloenu near Hohoe on behalf of the President.

He said government would ensure that all children of school going age were given the needed assistance in order for them to be in school. Mr Hlordze said the President was committed to making quality teaching and learning accessible to those who are deprived.

Mr Joseph Amenowode, Volta Regional Minister urged society to rise up to the task of taking care of orphans in accordance with Ghanaian tradition and morality.

"It does not cost mu ch to take care of them but cost much to neglect them," he said.

Mr Amenowode commended caretakers of the orphanage and urged them to continue with their good works. Madam Wayige, proprietress of the orphanage commended government for the support and called for more support from philanthropists. She said the orphanage had acquired a new site and needed electricity and water to make the place habitable. 4 Jan. 10
