US Gov't Contributes $25,000 For Flood Victims

The United States government has contributed $25,000 towards Ghana's emergency disaster relief fund to help meet the immediate humanitarian needs of people displaced by the floods that hit Ghana’s capital, Accra last week Wednesday. The US Ambassador to Ghana, Kathryn Dee Robinson announced that the funding is the latest example of the importance the US government places on relations with the government and people of Ghana. She said the recent meeting between President Bush and President Kufuor, demonstrates the budding partnership with Ghana.

The US ambassador who has been recalled to the US said she considers herself fortunate to have served as the US Ambassador to Ghana. Ghana’s National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) last week, launched an appeal in aid of the flood victims.

The United Nations office in Ghana has also donated relief items worth over 200 million cedis to NADMO. The items included 750 mattresses and blankets, 1,500 floor mats and 26 bundles of children’s clothing materials.
