Swedruman chiefs' demonstrates against MCE

Agona Swedru (C/R), April 15, GNA - Divisional and sub-chiefs of Agona Swedru on Tuesday embarked on a peaceful demonstration in protest against the nomination of Mrs Susuna Keelson-Aikins, as the Municipal Chief Executive for Agona West Assembly. The chiefs clad in red arm-bands held placards some of which read "give us a native MCE, "consider our plight Mr President", "We told you so", "Listen to us Mr President".

The demonstrators led by Nana Kobina Botwe II, Swedruhene went through the principal streets of the town and later presented their petition to Mr Eric Oppong-Bediako, Agona West Municipal Coordinating Director. Mr Oppong-Bediako promised the chiefs that he would send their petitions to the Central Regional Minister for onwards transmission to the President.

Nana Badu Ehuren, Sanaahene of Agona Swedru who read the petition on behalf of Nana Botwe said Mrs Keelson-Aikins' nomination as MCE for the area would never received their support because she comes from Larteh in the Akwapim area in the Eastern region. According to the chiefs this is worrying them "because the people of Agona Swedru are not alien, but free born Ghanaians, on their own God-given land".

Nana Ehuren said from the first President Dr Kwame Nkrumah's CPP government till President Mills' no Swedru citizen has been appointed as District or Municipal Chief Executive. He said "we the chiefs and people of Agona Swedru are now fed up with importation of aliens to look after us as Chief Executives". Nana Ehuren therefore appealed to President Mills to withdraw Mrs Keelson-Aikins' nomination as MCE and appoint a Swedru citizen for the position.
