JJ donates to security services

FORMER PRESIDENT RAWLINGS DONATES TO SECURITY SERVICES.

Smiles were written on the faces of children of military officers, police officers and other security agencies in the Brong Ahafo regional capital Sunyani, when former President Rawlings donated six rams and food items to be use in organizing a party as part of activities marking the Easter celebrations.

The rams and food items were gifts presented to the former President by some chiefs of the region during a thank you tour he embarked on in selected towns and villages in the Brong Ahafo region. The items were received on behalf of the security agencies by the Brong Ahafo Regional minister Mr.Kwadwo Nyamekye-Marfo.

The tour which took the former president to New Longoro,Bongase,Bui dam,Banda Ahenkro,Seikwa,Badukrom,Nsawkaw,Fawoman and Banda Nyire all in the Tain District, afforded the ex president the opportunity to learn at first hand challenges facing the communities and how best the NDC administration could address them. President Rawlings said it was imperative that all members of government recognise the fact that they were not elected as independent candidates but as members of the NDC.

The former President said he was particularly worried that erroneous impressions are being created that he has his men within the current ministerial structure and hence has no reason to complain. "People are asking me to be patient. It is too difficult for me to be patient if we keep crawling like this instead of running. If we keep crawling like this, it is going to take us more than four years to get to the people of Tain for developments. "We are not here to make promises but to thank you for voting the NDC back to power and to assure you we will not forget you.We are going to continue with some of the good works of the NPP as for the bad ones, they have to be redone.

Former President Rawlings enjoined all members of the National Executive Committee to voice out their concerns about the manner the country is being governed because criticism was crucial to the success of any leadership. The Brong Ahafo regional minister,Kwadwo Nyamekye-Marfo called on members of the government to place the interest of the nation first and desist from any corrupt activities. Some of the chiefs whose communities the former President visited asked the NDC not to forget their campaign promise.

Meanwhile the special aide to the former President Kofi Adams has served notice of legal action the Daily Guide newspaper for publicizing what he describes as libelous statement against the integrity of Mr. Rawlings. The paper in its Thursday 9th April 2009 edition reported that the ex president was presented with a stolen ram when he paid a courtesy call on the Nsawkaw hene.

The paper alleges that the timely intervention of the owner of the ram saved the situation but succeeded in embarrassing the former President. Mr. Adams described the report as figment of the reporters own imagination adding that the paper will answer for it in a court of law.

Mr. Adams statement has also been corroborated by the Media coordinator for the Brong Ahafo coordinating council, Charles Kwadwo- Ntim.

According to him the reporter was not part of the trip and no such incident took place and called on the media to be circumspect in their reportage.
