GNAT Training

Bolgatanga, March 15, GNA - The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), through a capacity building programme, has trained about 38 school representatives of GNAT in the Upper East Region, to enable them to effectively discharge the activities of the association in the area.

The Head of Management of Education of GNAT, Mr. Kwamena Jacob Anderson, said this at the end of a capacity building workshop for the participants drawn from schools in the nine districts of the region, at Bolgatanga at the weekend. He said the workshop was aimed at empowering the school representatives to enable them to champion and promote the activities of Secretariat, urged school representatives to collaborate with GNAT to promote teaching and learning. The course prefect of the workshop, Salifu Kundu Zore, gave the assurance that the participants would be good ambassadors of GNAT and promote its activities.

The Regional GNAT Secretary, Mr. Linus Coffie Attey, advised participants to implement the experience acquired at the workshop. Participants were taken through topics including the Present Structure of GNAT and Decision-making in GNAT, The Roles and Functions of School Representatives, Meeting Skills, GNAT services to Members, Communication Skills, The Labour Law and How It Impacts on GNAT, Data Collection as an Aid to the School Representative, Collective Bargaining, Negotiations and Grievances Handling, GNAT Finances, Handling Neigbour Issues, application of Basic Guidance and Counselling Principles. Participants at the end of the workshop were presented with certificates.
