NGO Launches Programme For Street Kids

Accra, Aug. 19, - The Intercultural Exchange Programme (IEP Ghana ), an NGO, is launching a new programme known as the Community Service programme (CSP) to benefit street kids. Under the programme, street children of all ages will offer voluntary services in environmental education, Mr Allan Okomeng- Mensah, the national chairperson, told a news conference in Accra today. He said the IEP, formerly known as the American Friendship Society (AFS), marks its 30th anniversary this year during which it will focus attention on environmental education. Mr Okomeng-Mensah said activities to mark the anniversary will include voluntary work at Frafraha, near Dodowa, on August 23, a picnic at Aburi on the same day and and a fund-raising dinner on September five at VAG house in Accra. AFS pursued guest teacher and African development education programmes and exposed ''Ghana's rich and unique culture to the rest of the world''. He said 2,000 people have, so far, participated in IEP's programmes in Ghana.
