EC Chairman calls for calm and circumspection

Accra, Dec. 7, GNA - The Chairman of the Electoral Commission, Dr Kwadwo Afari-Gyan, on Sunday called for calm saying some glitches reported during the early minutes of voting are local. The EC Chairman who has been touring polling stations in the Greater Accra and Volta regions, said so far the exercise had been going on well. He has been to Ashaiman, Sege, Dawa and Ada. Long winding queues have formed in polling stations as anxious voters wait to cast their votes. He urged voters, security agencies and the media, especially radio presenters, to be circumspect in their actions and pronouncements. Dr Afari-Gyan said radio presenters should not present problems, such as late arrival of voting materials, as national problems although they are local to polling stations. He said the presiding officers had been trained and were competent to solve problems.

In addition, the EC's Rapid Deployment Team has been moving round polling stations to solve problems. Voting started at 0700 hours and will continue until 1700 hours. Counting will be at the polling stations and first constituency results are due later on Sunday and final results in 72 hours. 7 Dec. 08
