Mills congratulates Barrack Obama

Accra, Oct. 5, GNA - The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress on Wednesday congratulated US president-elect Barack Obama on his "historic and emphatic victory" that makes him the first African-American to rise to the US presidency.

In a statement issued in Accra shortly after Mr Obama's victory, Professor Evans Atta Mills said "President elect, Barrack Obama, has proven to the whole world that with determination, a solid sense of purpose, a vision that is acceptable, a message that reverberates positively, a candidate that exudes humility, positivism and meaningful change, it is more than possible to win the battle for the hearts and minds of the electorate.

"President-elect Barrack Obama has proven the cynics and the critics wrong, and it is heartening to note that the in the United States of America, the wind of change could not be stopped.

"The yearning for change and a new direction is felt here in Ghana too. It will be made manifest on December 7th, 2008 when the party I lead, the NDC, emerges victorious, in a very emphatic manner, thanks to goodwill of the people of Ghana."

Prof. Mills said Senator Obama's victory was ample testimony that no force can stop the march of history. "I wish the 44th President of the United States well and look forward to working with him as Democrats and Social Democrats committed to the welfare of the ordinary people the world over," he said.
