Foreign Minister is "Hot"

... Ejisu-Juaben NPP primaries called off

Kumasi, June 6, GNA - The Ashanti Regional Executive of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has postponed indefinitely parliamentary primary in the Ejisu-Juaben constituency which should have been held on June 06 at the Prempeh Assembly Hall.

As early as 0700 hours, the delegates had converged at the Hall to cast their ballots until about 1000 hours when news came in that the election had been postponed.

Present at the venue were some party supporters as well as supporters of the contestants, officials of the Electoral Commission as well as two of the three contesting candidates, Mr Oliver Boachie, an ICT expert, and Mr Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, Ashanti Regional Director of the Ghana Highways Authority (GHA) but the incumbent MP was not present.

Addressing the gathering on reasons for the postponement Mr. Emmanuel John Amoah, the constituency chairman, said the postponement was due to circumstances beyond the control of the regional and constituency executives of the party.

He appealed to the delegates, contestants and supporters to exercise restraint and let peace prevail in the constituency as the party's leadership would meet as soon as possible to fix a new date for the election.

The Constituency had in recent times been rocked by demonstrations against the incumbent Member of Parliament for the area who is also the Foreign Minister, Mr. Akwasi Osei-Adjei, to the effect that he was not performing well as an MP.
