Stock index pushes up in quiet trading

Accra, Oct. 26, GNA - The Accra bourse ended a quiet trading session on Friday with less than 30,000 shares changing hands with the main stock index edging up slightly.

The main market index, the All-Share Index, closed up by 3.04 points at 5,839.30 points while change for the year closed the week at 16.65 per cent. The index gained 3.26 points during the week. The number of shares that changed hands on Friday came to a mere 28,400 shares, bringing the total number of shares that were sold during the week to 1.67 million.

On the broader market, there were five price changes, four up and one down, with all the gainers being banking stocks. CAL Bank gained 0.0001 GH cedis at 0.3513 GH cedis, Ecobank Ghana Limited inched up by 0.0001 GH cedis at 1.6507 GH cedis, Standard Chartered Bank was up by 0.1000 GH cedis at 24.1000 cedis and SG-SSB gained 0.0005 GH cedis at 1.0906 GH cedis. HFC Bank was the only loser, shaving 0.0002 GH cedis off its price at 0.5398 GH cedis. Market capitalisation ended better at 11,849.19 million GH cedis, bringing the total rise of the market capitalization during the week to 1.97 million GH cedis.
