Kumasi Muslims marked Eid-ul-Fitr

Kumasi, Oct 13, GNA - Sheik Mohammed Kamil Mohammed, the Ashanti Regional Chief Imam of the Al-Sunna Wal-Jamaa, a Muslim sect, on Saturday said that the government alone could not shoulder the responsibility of developing the nation.

He appealed to Muslims to complement government's effort at developing the country.

Sheik Mohammed was addressing Muslims at Old Tafo in the Kumasi metropolis on Saturday to mark the Eid-ul-Fitr festival. He said no meaningful development could be achieved in an atmosphere of chaos and conflicts and urged them to eschew such negative tendencies.

Sheik Mohammed said education played a vital role in socio-economic development and urged them to give quality education to their children. The Chief Imam advised them to be committed and dedicated to the worship of Allah at all times.

He stressed the need for them to live upright lives and avoid meddling in negative practices to tarnish the image of Islam. Special prayers were offered for President John Agyekum Kufuor and the government for God's protection and guidance over the years for ensuring peace, stability and development.
