Armed robbers terrorise revellers

Bawku (U/E), Feb. 8, GNA - Within five days, a four-member gang of armed robbers on a robbing spree, have been terrorising operators and revellers who patronise the services of entertainment spots in the Bawku township.

The gang robbed two spots, including a popular one known as 93Old Timers Spot", which is very close to the police barracks and later resurfaced at another spot near the Presby Hospital within ten minutes, carry on their operation.

The gang, who used two unregistered motor bikes, locally-manufactured pistol, masks and knives, have also extended their nocturnal activities to the Garu township, by robbing a spot. A victim, who briefed the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the operations of the gang, said the armed robbers arrived at her spot at about 2000 hours on two unregistered motor bikes and entered her premises as any of the revellers.

She said after some time, the gang went outside with the intention to urinate but only returned with masks on their faces and ordered the revellers with the pistol whilst two of them blocked the main entrances. According to the victim, the other two members then ordered her to surrender the day's sales and later searched the revellers for more money and mobile phones.

The Bawku Divisional Crime Officer, ASP I. C. Akligbe, confirmed the incidents and said the police have intensified night patrols to apprehend the robbers.
