Newmont donates to Ghana@50

Accra, Feb. 5, GNA - Newmont Ghana, on Monday donated 730 million cedis to the Ghana@50 Secretariat in Accra.
The money presented in two separate dummy cheques of 500 million and 230 million cedis were for the 50 years celebrations and on the greening Ghana projects in the Company's project areas in the Brong-Ahafo and Eastern Regions.
Dr Chris Anderson, Corporate and External Relations Manager, Africa Newmont Mining Corporation, said Newmont had distributed 300,000 seedlings towards the Greening Ghana Project.
Dr Anderson said as a developing nation, there was the need for Ghana to package itself to the world in order to attract investors as it celebrated its 50th anniversary.
He said Newmont paid 3.6 million dollars as royalties to the Government last year and that the Company would continue to operate in Ghana under conditions that would benefit both the country and the Company.
Dr Wireko Brobby, Chief Executive of the Secretariat, who received the donation, thanked Newmont for the gesture and called on other mining companies to help to address environmental problems at their operational sites.
